| NetLotto Version 2.4 Release Date |
 |
| NetLotto
Version 2.4 has been again hit by delays,
for which I can only apologize. The
release of Version 2.4 has now been
rescheduled for the end of this month,
i.e., Wednesday, August 31. Version
2.4 includes support for 3 ball lottery
games, Irish lotteries, Indian lotteries
and all Canadian lotteries, including
the provincial ones. The games statistics
will be improved by reporting draw frequency
for bonus balls separately from main
balls.

Plenty of Jackpots Out There |
 |
| Well,
the $170 million Mega Millions jackpot
went off to a group of six co-workers
in Ohio. It looks as if we'll all have
to wait a bit longer for the predicted
half a billion dollars prize. But there's
still plenty out there to be won. Arch
rival Powerball's up to $70 million,
followed by California Super Lotto Plus
at $50 million, Lotto Texas at $32 million,
and then Mega Millions again, already
back at $23 million. Or if you fancy
a try at Europe, Euro Millions is currently
back at $18 million, having just been
won by a 50 year old Irish mother of
six at $136 million! Closer to home,
if you win Canada Super 7, you'll walk
away with just $17 million.
NetLotto
remains the only system ever to have
selected a Mega Millions winning ticket!

| Does Powerball Have Mega Millions Envy? |
 |
| Mega
Millions changed its rules to make jackpots
harder to win when California joined
the club. This paid off immediately.
There were no winners, and the jackpot
just got bigger and bigger until it
reached $170 million.
The
Powerball folk were green with envy.
"The players are just beating the
game," Iowa Lottery President Edward
Stanek said Monday. "We had 11
Powerball jackpot winners the year before,
and we have had more than a 50 percent
increase for the fiscal year just ended."
More
winners means smaller jackpots and,
as every lottery director knows, it's
the multi-million dollar jackpots that
get everyone buying tickets.
Major
changes are coming for Powerball this
month that are intended to lure more
players who want bigger jackpots. "The
overall odds will be going from about
1 in 122 million to 1 in 146 million,"
Stanek said. "The goal is to have
the average jackpot somewhere above
$90 million when won, and to achieve
jackpots in the range of $200 million
to $300 million more often."
Starting
August 28, 2005, the guaranteed starting
jackpot will increase from $10 million
to $15 million and the prize for players
who match the first five numbers will
be doubled to $200,000.
Two
white balls will be added to the first
pool of numbers in Powerball drawings,
meaning players will choose five from
55. The Powerball pool will remain at
42. This increases the total number
of combinations to 146,107,962, just
slightly more than Stanek's estimate.
In contrast, the number of Mega Millions
combinations is 175,711,536, so we're
still going to see more Mega Millions
jackpots.
NetLotto
will be changed to reflect the new Powerball
rules as soon as they come into effect,
and the change distributed free of charge
to all NetLotto users. |

| Lottery Draws Triple Zero Twice in One Day! |
 |
| For
the first time in Missouri Lottery history,
not only triple digits, but the same
triple digits – 0-0-0 –
were drawn in both of the July 27 daily
Pick 3 drawings, resulting in prize
payouts much higher than sales.
"It
is an unusual thing for triple digits
to be drawn at all," said Gary
Gonder, interim director of the Missouri
Lottery. "But for the same triple
digits to be drawn back to back, that
is extremely rare."
As
the two drawings are completely independent
of each other, the probability of those
two same combinations being drawn consecutively
is one in a million.
The
July 27 midday drawing Pick 3 sales
were $60,071, and the payout to winners
was $102,240. Sales for the evening
Pick 3 drawing were $98,935, and the
prize payout was $213,810.
"Pick
3 players love to play triple numbers,"
said Scott White, on-line product manager
for the Missouri Lottery. "The
0-0-0 combination is the 11th most popular
combination played, and the most popular
combination is 4-4-4."
White
said an average daily payout for Pick
3 is approximately $106,000, and yesterday’s
payout was $316,050.
Yesterday
was the third and fourth time this year
that triple digits have been drawn.
On May 12, the combination 7-7-7 was
drawn in the evening drawing, and on
during the June 2 midday drawing, the
combination 8-8-8 came up.
The
combination 0-0-0 has only been drawn
six times in the Lottery’s history.
The
next NetLotto version update will handle
all Pick 3 games. |

| A Bit of History |
 |
In
1985, the first multi-state lottery in the U.S.
was created. The Tri-State Lotto combined the
state lotteries of Maine, New Hampshire and
Vermont to create a bigger prize pool.
Three
years later, in February 1988, the Lotto America
game started when Iowa, Kansas, Oregon, Rhode
Island, West Virginia and the District of Columbia
collectively formed the Multi-State Lottery
Association (MUSL). Exactly one year later,
it was changed to a 6 from 54 game with 2 plays
for $1 and ran until the start of Powerball
in 1992.
Powerball
is a national game and is drawn every Wednesday
and Saturday evening in West Des Moines, Iowa.
The Powerball concept differs from normal lotteries
as there is an extra ball (the Power Ball, naturally)
which is drawn from a separate container and
which must also be matched in order to win the
first prize. Because there is a lower chance
of doing this, Powerball regularly jackpots
into large amounts. Currently, the largest jackpot
paid has been $295 Million.

| Tip of the Week |
 |
| I
was asked in an email during the week
if the same entry had ever been drawn
twice in Mega Millions. I didn't know
the answer to that, but it seemed like
the sort of question it would be nice
to be able to ask NetLotto. Not just
for Mega Millions, of course, but for
any game that we keep past results for.
When I update past results, I often
notice unusual patterns. There may be
an unusually long run of sequential
numbers or a large selection of numbers
repeated from one draw to the next.
Or a pattern repeating itself every
few weeks, perhaps corresponding to
a particular barrel being used. Anyway,
it got me to thinking that it would
be great if a future version of NetLotto
allowed you, the user, to analyse past
results in all sorts of ways in order
to derive your own unique strategy,
which would be additional to the ones
already built in.
Watch
this space as I develop these thoughts
further. Some existing customers have
already emailed me with ideas, and you
are all welcome to do so.
As
always, upgrades are free to existing
customers, so why not start enjoying
the benefits of NetLotto now. You can
