Nebraska Lottery: Nebraska Pick 5 and PowerballIn November of 1992, 63 percent of Nebraska voters approved a constitutional amendment authorizing the creation of a state lottery. The Nebraska Lottery was created by LB 138, passed by the Nebraska Legislature on February 24, 1993. When the Nebraska Lottery began, it was the 37th lottery in the United States. Proceeds from the Nebraska Lottery benefit educational and environmental funds, as determined by the Nebraska Legislature. Since 1993, the Nebraska Lottery has distributed $198,952,597 among our beneficiaries. The Education Innovation Fund has received $93,981,324; the Nebraska Scholarship Fund, $3,510,211; the Nebraska Environmental Trust Fund, $79,030,540; the Compulsive Gamblers Assistance Fund, $3,969,526; and prior to July 1, 1997, the Solid Waste Landfill Closure Assistance Fund received $18,460,996. Nearly 1,000 major projects have been funded statewide with grants from these funds. For Nebraska Pick 5, select 5 balls from 38. There are 4 prize levels:
