Louisiana Lottery: Louisiana Lotto and Powerball

ACT 1045, which was approved in the 1990 session of the Louisiana Legislature, formed an amendment to the State Constitution allowing the creation of a state lottery.

In the statewide election held on October 6, 1990, the majority of voters approved of the amendment creating the lottery (69.2% for, 30.8% against).

The first instant scratch tickets went on sale on September 6, 1991.

For the Louisiana Lotto, you select 6 numbers from 40. All 6 numbers are required to win first prize. There are 4 levels of prizes.
